4 Reasons Why Mosquitos are Attracted to You

Why Mosquitoes Attack
Why Mosquitoes Attack
They are always around when we don't want them. They pester us when we are busy at work or simply relaxing at home. We try different ways to get rid of them but they just keep coming back - mosquitoes, that is!
Why did the mosquitoes attack me and steered clear of my colleagues? Am I a mosquito magnet?
Experts have shown that yes, there is a thing as a mosquito magnet. Studies have shown that one in 10 people may be more attractive than others to mosquitoes. It turns out that genetics does not only play a part in illnesses we may acquire but also in catching the attention of mosquitoes.

Here are just some of the possible reasons why your friendly neighborhood mosquito keeps coming back:

Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotion
Defense against mosquitos
1. Having high cholesterol may attract more mosquitoes.
  • Studies have shown that certain elements in our body chemistry may be the culprit.   Individuals with high concentrations of steroids or cholesterol on their skin surface, for instance, may attract mosquitoes.   This does not mean that mosquitoes will only attack people with high cholesterol; rather experts explain that these individuals process their cholesterol better than those with lower cholesterol levels, thus leaving the byproducts on the skin’s surface.
2.  People with high levels of uric acid attract bugs
  • In addition, experts say that people carrying extra amounts of acid like uric acid may also draw in mosquitoes.  The presence of these chemicals on individuals makess themn an easy prey to bug bites.
3.  Mosquitoes go crazy over pregnant women.
  • Pregnant women tend to exhale larger amounts of carbon dioxide.  Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide and can smell it from a distance of up to 50 meters. This is why pregnant women and other individuals who release large amounts of carbon dioxide attract mosquitoes.
4.  Sweat, movement and heat attract mosquitoes
  • When people exercise, they exhale more carbon dioxide.  They also sweat more. Unfortunately, mosquitoes are attracted to the scent of sweat.  The combination of sweat, carbon dioxide, plus a person’s movement and body heat make him or her a good target for mosquitoes.  This explains why active children often come home with mosquito bites on their bodies.

  2. Yep i can relate to this. We have noticed at times some people will get bitten like crazy while the other person next to them doesn't get one single bite. Always thought there must be something attracting them to that person. Now that im pregnant right now im always the one who gets bitten but usually (before i was pregnant) its always my husband, infact i always tease him about it, karma maybe? heheh.

I do get worried about my kids though and the possibility of dengue so i always keep some mosquito creams etc in my purse if we're outside with the kids.

Forti-D: Your Daily Dose of Vitamin D

Are you Vitamin D deficient? Just few weeks ago, I attended an event that talks about Vitamin D deficiency, then I realized it's not something we usually monitor. We go to the clinic for the regular physical examination which includes CBC, Blood Chemistry, Cholesterol check up, X-ray but have you ever had a check-up of your Vitamin D level?

Silent epidemic spreads: 3 out of 5 Filipinos suffer from Vit-D deficiency. Are you one of them? An expert in the field of occupational medicine has revealed that an increasing number of office workers in Metro Manila are becoming vitamin D-deficient because of their lifestyle habits.

Cases of vitamin D deficiency in the country are increasing due to lifestyle that most of us have. Vitamin D is produced naturally through adequate sun exposure and given that most office workers are not exposed to as much sunlight as they need to be, they face a much pronounced risk of suffering from the condition. Because of extreme heat, we opted to stay indoors…

Earlier, I attended the launch of Elica Cream and Ointment (Mometasone Furoate). It's a new product from Bayer Philippines that will treat inflamed, itchy eczema. When a child can't sleep at night, it might be due to monsters under the bed and that keeps mommies awake too. This monster attacks the skin, eczema.

Eczema is characterized by red, dry, itchy rashes on the skin. It is more common in children than in adults. It can also have a huge negative impact on a skid's life, like sleep deprivation.
