On Focus: Gabriel’s Symphony Foundation

Gabriel's Symphony Foundation (GSF) was founded by Senator Pia S. Cayetano in memory of her son, Gabriel, who was born with a rare chromosomal disorder called Trisomy 13

Gabriel was born with a cleft lip and palate, a hole in his heart, and was perceived to be deaf and blind due to the disorder. He lived for only nine months. Soon after, Gabriel's Symphony Foundation was born.

Since 2002, the Foundation has passionately pursued its mission of making a difference in children's lives. Among its projects are:

1. Cleft lip and palate operations. Over a thousand children have been successfully operated on.

2. Programs and medical assistance for the visually and hearing impaired. These include hearing aids, artificial eyes and year-end activities.

3. Outreach programs that include running clinics, field trips and various weekend activities for disadvantaged children like the Daanghan’ Barefoot Running Kids, the girls from Marillac Hills, and more.

4. Sports programs, including an annual sports fiesta fund-raiser and grassroots sports camps particularly for football and triathlon — swimming, biking and running all over the country.

The most recent beneficiary is the "Batang Rogie" charity named after 19-year—old UP football scholar Rogie Maglinas who hails from Masbate. He passed away on February 2, 2016 from complications resulting from cancer. In what would be his last Christmas back in his hometown, Rogie, like he always did, brought home football gear for the kids and spent time coaching them. To honor this courageous young athlete, the Foundation will continue what Rogie started.

Gabriel’s death in 2001, though painful to those who loved him, continues to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children.

Silent epidemic spreads: 3 out of 5 Filipinos suffer from Vit-D deficiency. Are you one of them? An expert in the field of occupational medicine has revealed that an increasing number of office workers in Metro Manila are becoming vitamin D-deficient because of their lifestyle habits.

Cases of vitamin D deficiency in the country are increasing due to lifestyle that most of us have. Vitamin D is produced naturally through adequate sun exposure and given that most office workers are not exposed to as much sunlight as they need to be, they face a much pronounced risk of suffering from the condition. Because of extreme heat, we opted to stay indoors…

Elica Cream For Treatment of Eczema

Earlier, I attended the launch of Elica Cream and Ointment (Mometasone Furoate). It's a new product from Bayer Philippines that will treat inflamed, itchy eczema. When a child can't sleep at night, it might be due to monsters under the bed and that keeps mommies awake too. This monster attacks the skin, eczema.

Eczema is characterized by red, dry, itchy rashes on the skin. It is more common in children than in adults. It can also have a huge negative impact on a skid's life, like sleep deprivation.
